My God Is A Woman
My God Is A Woman
I've spent a lot of time dropping off cookies and talking to my elderly neighbors over the years and gotten to know them pretty well. Jim is a naturalist at heart and even in his late 80's goes to a nature preserve weekly to check on the plants. He can name any bird, flower, weed, tree, or plant of any kind native to Ohio. He has cultivated and maintains a native plant butterfly garden that spans the back of our yards, and I see him in it every single day. We talk a lot about science, nature and philosophy. While discussing religion and agnosticism one day he told me that he wrote this poem when he was a teenager. "My God is a Woman. Her name is Mother Nature" and that summed up his thoughts on the matter. So this one is dedicated to him.
